Characteristics Associated With Nonreceipt of Surveillance Testing and the Relationship With Survival in Stage II and III Colon Cancer

Robert B. Hines et al.

Summary: The study investigated the characteristics of colon cancer patients who did not receive post-treatment surveillance testing and the association between surveillance status and survival outcomes. It found that older age, Black race, stage III disease, and chemotherapy were predictors of not receiving testing. Patients who did not receive surveillance testing had an increased rate of 10-year cancer death, particularly for those with stage III disease. Efforts are needed to ensure all patients receive high-quality medical care after a colon cancer diagnosis.
