An international tool to measure perceived stressors in intensive care units: the PS-ICU scale

Alexandra Laurent et al.

Summary: The study aimed to construct and validate a perceived stressors scale specific to ICU healthcare professionals in three languages. Six dimensions were identified, including lack of fit with families and organizational functioning, emotional load from patients and families, complex/at risk situations and skill-related issues, workload and human resource management issues, difficulties related to team working, and suboptimal care situations. The scale showed good psychometric properties across countries and can help identify work situations likely to generate high levels of stress.
