MODELING AND ANALYSIS OF THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE WOLBACHIA INCOMPATIBLE AND STERILE INSECT TECHNIQUE FOR MOSQUITO POPULATION SUPPRESSION

Bo Zheng et al.

Summary: The successful elimination of the dengue vector Aedes albopictus on Shazai and Dadaosha islands in Guangzhou through the release of Wolbachia-infected mosquitoes in 2016 and 2017 has led to the development of mathematical guidance for designing effective mass release strategies. The key concerns in these strategies involve determining the frequency and quantity of Wolbachia-infected mosquito releases required for population suppression. Mathematically analyzing the data from the experimental releases on the islands has helped in formulating suppression models, setting release amount thresholds, and establishing conditions for population suppression based on release quantities.
