Keishiro Hara et al.

Summary: The study examines the effects and implications of decision-making by introducing imaginary future generations as representatives in a citizens' participatory debate in a town in Japan. Findings show that being representatives of imaginary future generations led to a clear shift in perspective and an increase in self-reflective viewpoint among participants. Additionally, shared viewpoints between current and future generations were found to exist within individuals, hinting at developing institutions and social systems that facilitate sustainable decision-making.
