Contextual relationships among key factors related to environmental sustainability: Evidence from an emerging economy

Summary: This study aimed to identify critical success factors (CSFs) for implementing Environmentally Sustainable Supply Chain Management (ESSCM) practices in the readymade garment (RMG) sector of Bangladesh. Through literature review, expert discussions, and analysis techniques such as Total Interpretive Structural Modeling (TISM) and Cross-impact Matrix Multiplication Applied to Classification (MICMAC), the study found that effective government policies play a dominant role in influencing other CSFs in the RMG industry. The findings help guide managers in focusing on relevant CSFs to achieve ESSCM more effectively in an emerging economy context.

The analysis reveals a lack of empirically designed and theoretically grounded studies in this area, limited generalizability of findings, and a focus on high-demand essential goods and healthcare products rather than low-demand items and SMEs. Additionally, the study offers research questions and directions for further investigation by considering findings from prior epidemic outbreaks and other disruptions in the supply chain discipline.

Summary: This study aims to develop a framework to identify, analyze, and assess supply chain disruption factors and drivers using an integrated approach. Through empirical analysis in the ready-made garment industry in Bangladesh, the study identified and examined sixteen disruption drivers, confirming the robustness and viability of the framework through sensitivity analysis. By expanding the literature scope of supply chain disruption risk assessment, this research provides managers with the ability to formulate effective mitigation strategies and make proactive decisions.
