Power Versus Sarcopenia: Associations with Functionality and Physical Performance Measures

Gulistan Bahat et al.

Summary: The study compared the associations of low muscle power and sarcopenia with functional and performance measures. Results showed that low muscle power was related to disability measures, while muscle weakness was only related to disability in IADL. Low muscle power was more closely related to performance measures.

Sit-to-stand muscle power test: Comparison between estimated and force plate-derived mechanical power and their association with physical function in older adults

Ivan Baltasar-Fernandez et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the assumptions in the sit-to-stand (STS) muscle power test, compared force plate-derived (FPD) STS power values with those derived from the STS muscle power test, and analyzed the relationships of both measurements with physical function. The findings showed that estimated STS power was not significantly different from FPD STS power, and both measures were strongly related to each other and to maximal physical performance.

'Fat but powerful' paradox: association of muscle power and adiposity markers with all-cause mortality in older adults from the EXERNET multicentre study

Julian Alcazar et al.

Summary: The study found that older adults with stronger muscle power and moderate adiposity (F+P and L+P) had a lower risk of all-cause mortality, while only the lean group with stronger muscle power (L+P) showed survival benefits in terms of fat index.
