Integrated metabolo-transcriptomics and functional characterization reveals that the wheat auxin receptor TIR1 negatively regulates defense againstFusarium graminearum

Peisen Su et al.

Summary: This study investigated the mechanisms underlying wheat resistance to F. graminearum infection through integrated metabolomics and transcriptomics analysis, identifying potential pathways for improving FHB resistance in wheat. Experiments showed that exogenous application of certain compounds increased wheat resistance to FHB, while knockdown of the auxin receptor gene TaTIR1 also enhanced FHB resistance, indicating the potential use of this gene in crop improvement programs.

Summary: This study utilized iTRAQ labeling-based mass spectrometry to characterize the proteome in wheat cultivars with different levels of Fusarium head blight (FHB) resistance, revealing that proteins in the FHB-resistant cultivar Xinong 538 were mainly associated with metabolic pathways related to plant-pathogen interaction, potentially playing a critical role in defense responses against FHB.

Integration of meta-QTL discovery with omics: Towards a molecular breeding platform for improving wheat resistance to Fusarium head blight

Tong Zheng et al.

Summary: This study presents a new strategy for identifying robust and reliable meta-QTL for improving wheat resistance to FHB. Through meta-analysis, 625 original QTL from 113 publications were consolidated into 118 genetic map-based mQTL, from which 77 high-confidence mQTL were selected. By analyzing transcriptomic and proteomic data, 17 genes related to FHB and locus-specific SNP and SSR markers were identified within the selected mQTL intervals.

Can effectoromics and loss-of-susceptibility be exploited for improving Fusarium head blight resistance in wheat?

Andrii Gorash et al.

Summary: Bread wheat is a widely cultivated crop providing about 20% of daily calorie intake. Fusarium head blight (FHB) is a devastating disease reducing wheat yield and quality globally. Advances in omics technologies have allowed for the identification of candidate pathogen effectors and host resistance genes, offering new strategies for developing FHB-resistant wheat cultivars.
