Seabirds as anthropization indicators in two different tropical biotopes: A One Health approach to the issue of antimicrobial resistance genes pollution in oceanic islands

Ana Carolina Ewbank et al.

Summary: The study revealed the presence of multiple antimicrobial resistance genes in the gastrointestinal microbiome of seabirds, with tetracycline resistance genes being the most prevalent. The prevalence of sulfonamide and quinolone resistance genes was higher in anthropized habitats. Migratory species showed higher prevalence of polymyxins and betalactam resistance genes compared to non-migratory species.
