Combination of metformin and chlorogenic acid attenuates hepatic steatosis and inflammation in high-fat diet fed mice

Fahimeh Zamani-Garmsiri et al.

Summary: The combination of MET and CGA has shown efficacy in reducing fasting blood sugar, improving glucose tolerance, and decreasing the occurrence of NAFLD in HFD mice. It regulates fatty acid synthesis and lipid accumulation, and has anti-inflammatory effects by polarizing macrophages and reducing pro-inflammatory cytokines levels. Additionally, it increases the phosphorylation of AMP-activated protein kinase, suggesting therapeutic potential against NAFLD.

Emodin palliates high-fat diet-induced nonalcoholic fatty liver disease in mice via activating the farnesoid X receptor pathway

Chuangpeng Shen et al.

Summary: Emodin, a major bioactive constituent of Cassia mimosoides Linn, has protective effects against high-fat diet-induced nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) by activating farnesoid X receptor (FXR) signaling. Emodin improves lipid accumulation, insulin resistance, inflammation, and oxidative stress through FXR signaling pathway.

Berberine Prevents Disease Progression of Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis through Modulating Multiple Pathways

Yanyan Wang et al.

Summary: Berberine shows promising therapeutic effects on NASH by reducing hepatic lipid accumulation, restoring bile acid homeostasis, inhibiting inflammation, and fibrosis through modulation of multiple pathways, including downregulation of microRNA34a and long noncoding RNA H19. These findings lay a strong foundation for future clinical investigations.

Protective effect of the new prepared Atractylodes macrocephala Koidz polysaccharide on fatty liver hemorrhagic syndrome in laying hens

Y. F. Miao et al.

Summary: Fatty liver hemorrhage syndrome (FLHS) is a common noninfectious cause of death in backyard chickens worldwide, resulting in decreased egg production and industry losses. This study showed that polysaccharide from Atractylodes macrocephala Koidz (PAMK) could alleviate FLHS and improve antioxidant capacity and liver pathology in laying hens.

Research progress in use of traditional Chinese medicine monomer for treatment of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease

Honglin Zhou et al.

Summary: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is gradually becoming one of the most common chronic liver diseases in the world due to the improvement of living standards and changes in eating habits. Traditional Chinese medicines (TCM) have attracted attention for their multi-target and multi-channel mechanisms in treating NAFLD, showing potential through regulating various pathways for ameliorating the disease.

Therapeutic potential of puerarin against methionine-choline-deficient diet-induced non-alcoholic steatohepatitis determined by combination of 1H NMR spectroscopy-based metabonomics and 16S rRNA gene sequencing

Meng-juan Gong et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the beneficial effects and underlying mechanisms of puerarin on MCD diet-induced NASH in mice using metabonomics and gene sequencing. Puerarin improved hepatic steatosis and inflammation in NASH mice by ameliorating metabolic disorders and rebalancing gut flora. The findings provide new insights into NASH pathogenesis and support the use of puerarin as an anti-NASH agent.

SIRT1 provides new pharmacological targets for polydatin through its role as a metabolic sensor

Zhicheng Sun et al.

Summary: The SIRT family of proteins, including SIRT1, plays vital roles in various biological functions, with polydatin being considered a potential activator of SIRT1. Polydatin's mechanisms involve signaling pathways with related molecules like PGC-1 alpha, Nrf2, p38-MAPK, NLPR3 inflammasome, and p53, regulating metabolism and potentially serving as a pharmacological target.

Polysaccharide of Atractylodes macrocephala Koidz regulates LPS-mediated mouse hepatitis through the TLR4-MyD88-NFκB signaling pathway

Sixuan Guo et al.

Summary: This study found that pretreatment with Polysaccharide of Atractylodes macrocephala Koidz (PAMK) could alleviate the histopathological damage caused by LPS-induced liver inflammation in mice. PAMK activated the TLR4-MyD88-NF-κB signaling pathway, reduced levels of IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α, increased IL-4 levels, and inhibited GSH-PX and MDA levels, indicating its potential protective role in reducing inflammatory damage and oxidative stress in the liver.
