Chiral Quasi-Bound States in the Continuum

Adam Overvig et al.

Summary: The study introduces quasi-bound states in the continuum (QBICs) born of chiral perturbations, encoding arbitrary elliptical polarization states and enabling geometric phase engineering. Metasurfaces with ultrasharp spectral features are designed as a result, shaping impinging wave fronts with near-unity efficiency. The findings extend Fano resonances beyond their conventional limits, opening opportunities for nanophotonics, classical and quantum optics, and acoustics.

Dielectric Huygens' metasurfaces with diverse functionalities in the range from near-UV to-UV

Kwang-Hyon Kim et al.

Summary: This study reports highly efficient dielectric Huygens' metasurfaces operating in the UV range, demonstrating non-diffracting Bessel beam generation and compression of chirped UV pulses. In addition, it is discovered that these metasurfaces have efficient second harmonic radiation generation capabilities and can produce highly enhanced local fields in nanodisks.

High-Q Transparency Band in All-Dielectric Metasurfaces Induced by a Quasi Bound State in the Continuum

Diego R. Abujetas et al.

Summary: Bound states in the continuum (BICs), leaky/resonant modes that are highly localized, have been a topic of interest in optics and photonics, especially in metasurfaces made of sub-wavelength meta-atoms. By tuning the periodicity of an all-dielectric metasurface, it is possible to shift a canonical BIC and achieve a narrow transparency band with a high Q-factor. Experimental measurements in the microwave regime confirm the theoretical predictions of an ultra-narrow BIC-induced transparency band with potential applications in filtering and sensing throughout the electromagnetic spectrum.
