Review-Aggregation-Induced Emission in Carbon Dots for Potential Applications

Farwa Arshad et al.

Summary: Aggregation-induced emission (AIE) has opened up a new research area for the application potentials of luminescent materials, with carbon dots (Cdots) being recognized as a promising alternative to organic dyes due to their fascinating fluorescence properties. The improved emission of Cdots when aggregated is attributed to changes in solvent polarity, higher concentration, and externally added chemical species. This review also highlights the mechanistic overview and application potentials of AIE in various fields such as sensing, optoelectronic devices, fingerprints recognition, and solar concentrators.
