Double-Side Si Photoelectrode Enabled by Chemical Passivation for Photoelectrochemical Hydrogen and Oxygen Evolution Reactions

Bin Liu et al.

Summary: This study presents a Si photoelectrode passivated by an amorphous Si layer with an ultra-long minority carrier diffusion length, enabling applications in photoelectrochemical water reduction and oxidation. The chemically passivated Si photoelectrode breaks the trade-off between carrier transport and surface passivation in conventional Si photoelectrodes, achieving high photocurrent and stability. A monolithic unbiased artificial leaf with efficient solar to hydrogen conversion efficiency is constructed using this technology.

Efficient and Stable Perovskite-Based Photocathode for Photoelectrochemical Hydrogen Production

Ju-Hyeon Kim et al.

Summary: This study presents a highly efficient and stable organometal halide perovskite (OHP) based photocathode achieved through a new zwitterion passivation and eutectic gallium indium alloy (EGaIn) encapsulation method, leading to improved power conversion efficiency and stability. The photocathodes show less than 5% current loss between photovoltaic cells and photoelectrochemical cells, and demonstrate the highest stability over 54 hours under continuous full sunlight illumination in a sulfuric acid electrolyte.

Structure-Induced Stability in Sinuous Black Silicon for Enhanced Hydrogen Evolution Reaction Performance

Margaret Patrick et al.

Summary: The future of clean energy infrastructure relies on efficient, low-cost, long-lasting systems for solar energy conversion and storage, which are currently limited by technical challenges in developing stable solar absorber-catalyst interfaces and understanding their mechanisms. The use of novel structural designs can significantly improve the intrinsic stability of semiconductor materials, enhancing the overall stability of solar energy conversion devices.
