Improved mechanical responses of GFRP composites with epoxy-vinyl ester interpenetrating polymer network

B. N. V. S. Ganesh K. Gupta et al.

Summary: This study investigated the development of glass fiber reinforced polymer composite with a polymer blend of epoxy and vinyl ester, forming an Interpenetrating polymer network (IPN) which resulted in improved mechanical properties compared to traditional materials. By analyzing the curing temperatures, the GEVIPN composite exhibited enhanced mechanical properties at optimal post-cure temperature. Additionally, chemical restructuring and strong interfacial bonding in the GEVIPN composite were analyzed using various techniques such as FTIR and SEM.

Wood-Derived Hydrogels as a Platform for Drug-Release Systems

Mario Culebras et al.

Summary: Wood-based hydrogels containing cellulose and lignin were successfully developed as drug-release platforms. The viscoelastic and cross-linking properties of precursor solutions were adjusted to create highly porous hydrogel structures through freeze-drying. Variations in the lignin molecular structure significantly influenced the swelling and mechanical performance of the hydrogels, with organosolv-type lignin demonstrating optimal properties for drug release systems.

Mechanical characterization and modeling stress relaxation behavior of acrylic-polyurethane-based graft-interpenetrating polymer networks

Nima Alizadeh et al.

Summary: The stress relaxation behavior of acrylic-polyurethane (PU)-based graft-interpenetrating polymer networks (IPNs) was studied through dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and numerical modeling using finite element method (FEM). Experimental results were used to develop a three-dimensional FEM model, with good agreement between experimental observations and FEM model results. The effects of varying styrene content, phase compatibility in IPNs, and concentration of acrylic copolymer and PU on stress relaxation were investigated.

Facile Tailoring of Structures for Controlled Release of Paracetamol from Sustainable Lignin Derived Platforms

Mario Culebras et al.

Summary: The study successfully synthesized hydrogels using lignin, a non-valorized biopolymer, crosslinked with PEGDGE. The ratio of crosslinker used influenced the structural and chemical properties of the resulting hydrogels, with increased crosslinker amount leading to smaller pore size and higher swelling capacity. Paracetamol release test showed higher drug diffusion for hydrogels produced with a lignin:PEGDGE ratio of 1:1.
