Review: Sources of Hydrological Model Uncertainties and Advances in Their Analysis

Edom Moges et al.

Summary: Hydrological models continue to be uncertain due to various factors such as input data, calibration, model structure, and parameters. Different methods for uncertainty analysis are categorized into six broad classes, but there is limited application for structural uncertainty. Further research is needed to improve computational efficiency, address various sources of uncertainty, enhance applications in environmental changes and human-natural-hydrological systems, and make it easier for practitioners to apply uncertainty analysis.

Impacts of land-use conversions on the water cycle in a typical watershed in the southern Chinese Loess Plateau

Jingyi Hu et al.

Summary: Land use change is a major driver of hydrological change at the watershed scale, with the Wei River Basin experiencing significant changes due to ecological restoration programs. Simulation results indicated a decrease in water yield, an increase in soil water content, and no significant change in evapotranspiration as a result of land use and land cover change from 1980 to 2010. Additionally, the study found that conversion of cropland to grassland or forest had negative effects on soil water content and water yield in the Wei River Basin.

A novel decoupling dynamic method with third-order accuracy and controllable dissipation

Peng Yuan et al.

Summary: An efficient explicit integration method with third-order accuracy and controllable dissipation properties is proposed in this paper, which can achieve desirable accuracy for low-frequency responses and strongly suppress spurious vibrations in high-frequency domain. The method's update values of displacement and velocity are independent of the new state, making it convenient for decoupling multi-spring coupling dynamic systems and achieving high computational efficiency. The method's standard formulations, including second-order and third-order accuracy schemes, are derived by discussing local truncation error, difference accuracy, and stability.
