Wave activities characteristics during a sudden sharp drought-flood turn event in 2011 in East China

Chenghai Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that intraseasonal oscillation played a crucial role in a sudden turn from drought to flood event in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River Basin in 2011, with the simultaneous conversion of two different intraseasonal oscillation modes being a key factor.

Drought-flood abrupt alternation dynamics and their potential driving forces in a changing environment

Wuzhi Shi et al.

Summary: Compared with a single drought or flood, drought-flood abrupt alternation (DFAA) may have more adverse impact on water resources management, crop production, and food security. However, studies on the evolution characteristics of DFAA in northern China have been limited, and the driving factors have not been fully revealed. Research in the Wei River basin (WRB) shows that DTF events exhibit a less-more-less variation pattern from southwest to northeast, while FTD events show the opposite pattern. Additionally, the flood season in the WRB is dominated by FTD events, with upstream areas experiencing DTF events prior to a mutation point.

Sensitivity Assessment to the Occurrence of Different Types of Droughts Using GIS and AHP Techniques

Abdol Rassoul Zarei et al.

Summary: In this study, sensitivity to different types of drought was evaluated using AHP and GIS, determining effective indicators and weights for each type of drought. By creating sensitivity maps, it was found that Med had the highest impact on drought sensitivity.

Flood risk mapping and crop-water loss modeling using water footprint analysis in agricultural watershed, northern Iran

Maziar Mohammadi et al.

Summary: This study calculated water losses in agricultural products due to flooding and created a flood risk map using GIS, highlighting elevation as a critical factor. Geographically weighted regression was also employed to evaluate the relationship between agricultural land use and flood risk, providing valuable insights for crop management and flood damage reduction for stakeholders and policymakers.
