A Review of GPR Application on Transport Infrastructures: Troubleshooting and Best Practices

Mercedes Solla et al.

Summary: This paper introduces the use of ground penetrating radar (GPR) in the inspection of transportation infrastructures, highlighting its importance in assessing structural health conditions and its advantages and disadvantages. Through a review of the literature, the potential of using GPR is demonstrated, while some practical recommendations are made.

Study and Evolution of the Dune Field of La Banya Spit in Ebro Delta (Spain) Using LiDAR Data and GPR

Inmaculada Rodriguez-Santalla et al.

Summary: La Banya spit is a sandy formation at the south of the River Ebro Delta, developed by bars forming successive beach ridges. A study between 2004 and 2012 showed that while barchan dunes on the spit increased in area and volume, foredunes lost thickness. The overall balance of dune occupation during this period was positive.

Analysis of the Snow Water Equivalent at the AEMet-Formigal Field Laboratory (Spanish Pyrenees) During the 2019/2020 Winter Season Using a Stepped-Frequency Continuous Wave Radar (SFCW)

Rafael Alonso et al.

Summary: This study presented a radar-based method for determining SWE in snowpack, along with proposing an approximate method to calculate SWE. The feasibility of the approximate method was confirmed through comparison with results from a cosmic-ray neutron SWE gauge in the Spanish Pyrenees. Additionally, the feasibility of an auxiliary snow height measurement sensor based on FMCW radar was demonstrated.

Ground Penetrating Radar as a Functional Tool to Outline the Presence of Buried Waste: A Case Study in South Italy

Carmine Massarelli et al.

Summary: Ground penetrating radar (GPR) method was used as a rapid preliminary survey to detect illegally buried waste, showing signal anomalies related to buried waste within a maximum depth of about 3m. Excavations confirmed the presence of large quantities of solid waste in areas with anomalies compared to natural soil.

GPR Clutter Reflection Noise-Filtering through Singular Value Decomposition in the Bidimensional Spectral Domain

Rui Jorge Oliveira et al.

Summary: In this study, a procedure to filter clutter reflection noise (CRN) from GPR datasets was presented using a singular value decomposition-based method in the 2D spectral domain. Experimental results demonstrated that this filtering method can improve the quality of archaeological GPR planimetry.
