Enhancement strategies for transdermal drug delivery systems: current trends and applications

Summary: Transdermal drug delivery systems have become an intriguing research topic in pharmaceutical technology area and one of the most frequently developed pharmaceutical products in global market. This article reviews the current trends, and future applications of transdermal technologies, with specific focus on providing a comprehensive understanding of transdermal drug delivery systems and enhancement strategies. The use of microneedle technology has shown promising results in improving transdermal delivery systems, with opportunities for intradermal delivery of drugs/biotherapeutics and therapeutic drug monitoring.

Preparation of antibacterial film-based biopolymer embedded with vanadium oxide nanoparticles using one-pot laser ablation

Summary: An environmentally and cost effective film based on poly(vinyl alcohol)/chitosan embedded with vanadium oxide nanoparticles was fabricated using pulsed laser ablation in liquids pathway. The addition of V2O5 NPs enhanced the antibacterial properties and structural features of the composite film. The interaction between V2O5 NPs and PVA/CS was confirmed, suggesting the potential use of this nanocomposite film in various antibacterial applications.

Molecular Dynamics Investigation of the Deformation Mechanism of Gold with Variations in Mold Profiles during Nanoimprinting

Summary: Understanding the deformation behavior during nanoimprint lithography is crucial for high resolution patterning. Molecular dynamics modeling was used to investigate how different mold profiles affect von Mises stress, lattice dislocations, and material deformation. Higher stress was observed for spherical molds compared to rectangular and cylindrical molds. During mold penetration stage, stress increased for all mold geometries but reduced during relaxation and mold retrieval stages. The findings can aid in mold design for various applications.

Summary: This review identified key progress points in using 3D printing to manufacture microneedles over the past 3 years, particularly focusing on advances in photopolymerization and extrusion-based 3D printing. The study highlighted that printing resolution and material properties are the two critical parameters that significantly influence the outcome of microneedle printing endeavors. Finally, the authors attempted to estimate the impact of 3D printing on the transdermal drug delivery market.
