Effect of printing temperature on microstructure, thermal behavior and tensile properties of 3D printed nylon using fused deposition modeling

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the thermal conditions for the printability of nylon using FDM. Dog-bone like specimens were used to assess the tensile performance of 3D printed nylon under different printing temperatures. Both SEM and X-ray micro-tomography analysis provided insights into the microstructural arrangement of nylon filaments, while finite element computation was employed to study deformation mechanisms and process-induced porosity. The results revealed a narrow temperature range for printability of nylon and highlighted the significant influence of printing temperature on various properties.
