Preparation and characterization of bio-based green renewable composites from poly(lactic acid) reinforced with corn stover

Jipeng Guo et al.

Summary: The study prepared PLA/corn stover composites by melt blending, with modified PLA showing improved properties thanks to grafted acrylic acid; SEM observation showed that proper amount of corn stover enhanced dispersion and interfacial bonding of the composite material; XRD, DSC, and TGA analyses indicated the influence of corn stover content on the crystallinity of composites.

Thermal Properties and Barrier Performance of Antibacterial High-Density Polyethylene Reinforced with Carboxyl Graphene-Grafted Modified High-Density Polyethylene

Zheng-Lu Ma et al.

Summary: The study prepared HDPE/CG-g-MHDPE nanocomposites by combining high-density polyethylene (HDPE) with carboxyl graphene-grafted modified high-density polyethylene (CG-g-MHDPE), and found that a low content of CG-g-MHDPE significantly improved the mechanical properties, crystallinity, thermal properties, and barrier properties of the nanocomposites, enhancing the compatibility between graphene and HDPE. However, the overall performance of the nanocomposites decreased with increasing added amount of CG-g-MHDPE.

Conductivity and mechanical properties of carbon black-reinforced poly(lactic acid) (PLA/CB) composites

Jipeng Guo et al.

Summary: Appropriate amount of carbon black can improve the mechanical properties and hydrophobicity of PLA, but excess addition can reduce mechanical properties. A lower amount of carbon black enhances water barrier performance but also increases oxygen permeability. Crystallinity of PLA can be improved with suitable amount of carbon black, while increasing filler content makes the composite material more brittle.
