Synthesis and deposition of silver nanoparticles on porous titanium substrates for biomedical applications

Summary: Ti implants are highly biocompatible and allow orderly bone growth, but a small percentage may fail due to poor osseointegration and bacterial infections. Silver nanoparticles, when immobilized on a surface, have been shown to damage bacterial cells through prolonged release of Ag+ ions. In this study, two methods for synthesizing silver nanoparticles were proposed and their deposition on porous Ti substrates was evaluated for antibacterial behavior. Preliminary results showed the presence of inhibitory halos, particularly in substrates with larger pores.

In-situ incorporation of highly dispersed silver nanoparticles in nanoporous carbon nitride for the enhancement of antibacterial activities

Summary: Graphitic carbon nitride with incorporated silver nanoparticles has demonstrated excellent antibacterial activity against both wild type and multidrug-resistant Escherichia coli pathogens. The in-situ incorporation of Ag NPs in NCN matrix significantly enhanced the antibacterial activities, leading to a higher reduction in minimum inhibitory concentration compared to susceptible wild type E. coli. This suggests the potential application of NCN@Ag for inactivating multidrug-resistant bacterial pathogens.
