High-Performance Photocathodic Bioanalysis Based on Core-Shell Structured Cu2O@TiO2 Nanowire Arrays with Air-Liquid-Solid Joint Interfaces

Summary: This study addresses the issue of fluctuating oxygen levels in analyte solution compromising the accuracy of photocathodic bioanalysis by constructing a triphase biophotocathode. The biophotocathode stabilizes and increases oxidase kinetics by creating a reaction zone with steady and air phase-dependent oxygen concentration. The developed PEC bioassay system shows high selectivity, good accuracy, and a wide linear detection range, making it suitable for various applications in disease diagnosis, medical research, and environmental monitoring.

Recoverable peroxidase-like Fe3O4@MoS2-Ag nanozyme with enhanced antibacterial ability

Summary: The study successfully demonstrated the efficient antibacterial performance of Fe3O4@MoS2-Ag nanozyme against E. coli, and revealed a synergistic disinfection effect. Through the collaborative work of peroxidase-like activity, photothermal effect, and Ag+ leakage, the nanozyme could accurately and rapidly attack bacterial membranes, showing broad-spectrum antibacterial capabilities.

Ceria-based peroxidase-mimicking nanozyme with enhanced activity: A coordination chemistry strategy

Summary: A new synthesis strategy was developed to construct ceria-based nanomaterials with excellent peroxidase mimic behaviors by chelating transition metals ions onto ceria nanorods. Mn(II)/CeO2 was found to exhibit the highest peroxidase mimicking activity and was successfully applied for the detection of H2O2 and glucose. This study not only demonstrates the high-activity enhancement of peroxidase-mimic property in metal-chelated nanoceria, but also provides a promising strategy for regulating the catalytic activity of nanozymes.

A versatile Pt-Ce6 nanoplatform as catalase nanozyme and NIR-II photothermal agent for enhanced PDT/PTT tumor therapy

Summary: The study synthesized a composite nanosystem Pt-Ce6 using porous Pt nanoparticles, which can continuously decompose H(2)O(2) into oxygen, alleviating tumor hypoxia and enhancing the effect of PDT. Additionally, Pt-Ce6 demonstrated good photothermal stability and high photothermal conversion efficiency in the NIR-II region, effectively suppressing tumor growth and recurrence under laser irradiation in U14 tumor-bearing mice.

Their enzyme-like activities are significantly enhanced under light irradiation, achieving a high tumor inhibition rate of 96.3% by combining with excellent photothermal effect.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Summary: The development of novel nanomaterials with enzymatic activity for cancer cell detection and therapy is crucial in clinic diagnostics. Co(OH)(2)/FeOOH/WO3 nanoflowers with pH-switchable peroxidase and catalase-like activities were synthesized and used for colorimetric biosensor for detecting human cervical cancer cells. These nanomaterials also showed anticancer behavior through their intrinsic catalase-like activity and production of oxygen for photodynamic therapy, paving the way for highly active nanozymes in cancer diagnosis and treatment.

The adsorption process changes the surface morphology of the nanoparticles, releasing Mn2+ ions to generate active sites and enhancing oxidase-mimicking catalytic activity.

The synthesis method, using aqueous solution, offers a potential scalable and safe nanomedicine for treating metabolic comorbidities associated with obesity.
