Accumulation of Trace Metals in Indigenous Fish Species from the Old Brahmaputra River in Bangladesh and Human Health Risk Implications

Sabikunnahar Shorna et al.

Summary: The study assessed the accumulation of six toxic trace metals in indigenous fish species from the Old Brahmaputra River in Bangladesh. Metals varied significantly among fishes based on their feeding habits and living habitats. While individual metal-specific health risks were low, there was a chronic noncarcinogenic health risk from G. chapra consumption and carcinogenic risk from As exposure.

Assessment of uranium migration and pollution sources in river sediments of the Ili River Basin using multiply statistical techniques

Lingfeng Dong et al.

Summary: The study investigated the concentration, distribution, and possible sources of uranium in river sediments of the Ili River Basin. Results showed that uranium pollution was significantly higher in tributaries near the Wusun Mountain, originating from coal mines in the area. Main streams in the rivers were mainly unpolluted or slightly polluted, reflecting the influence of upstream tributaries on uranium contamination. Source control of coal-derived uranium pollution near the Wusun Mountain was identified as critical for protecting the aquatic environment in the Ili River Basin.

Study of Heavy Metals Pollution and Vitellogenin Levels in Brown Trout (Salmo trutta trutta) Wild Fish Populations

Carmine Merola et al.

Summary: This research investigated the concentrations of heavy metals and levels of vitellogenin in wild brown trout from two different rivers in the Abruzzi region of Italy. The results showed that the water quality in both rivers is suitable for brown trout life, and there were no significant differences in metal concentrations and VTG levels between the trout from the two rivers.
