Competition Restricts the Growth, Development, and Propagation of Carpinus tientaiensis: A Rare and Endangered Species in China

Liangjin Yao et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the population distribution, structure, and relationship with other tree species of Carpinus tientaiensis. It found that saplings and juveniles were more aggregated, the DBH size structure showed an inverted J distribution, and there was a significant positive correlation between individuals with a large diameter at a small scale. Interspecific competition was observed to restrict the growth of Carpinus tientaiensis, which adopts different ecological strategies to coexist with other tree species.

Potential habitat and productivity loss of Populus deltoides industrial forest plantations due to global warming

Jiejie Sun et al.

Summary: This study utilized ecological niche models to explore the relationship between potential habitat suitability and productivity of Populus deltoides on a global scale. The results showed a significant positive correlation between habitat suitability and productivity, with key abiotic factors such as annual mean temperature, mean temperature of the coldest quarter, and topsoil gravel content influencing habitat suitability and stand productivity. Additionally, climate change scenarios projected a potential loss in global total productivity of P. deltoides, leading to recommendations for adaptive management strategies based on the predicted changes in productivity.
