Decreased IDO1-dependent tryptophan metabolism in aged lung during influenza

Soo Jung Cho et al.

Summary: In this study, the impact of chronological aging on tryptophan metabolism in response to influenza infection was investigated. The findings suggest that older individuals exhibit decreased tryptophan metabolism in response to influenza, leading to increased inflammation and reduced regulatory responses. Treatment with a mitochondrial targeted antioxidant improved mitochondrial function and restored tryptophan metabolism in aged mice, offering a potential therapeutic approach to enhance immunometabolic responses in this population.
