Soil CO2 flux and temperature from a new geothermal area in the Cordon de Inacaliri Volcanic Complex (northern Chile)

Taussi Marco et al.

Summary: This paper presents the first geochemical data from an unexplored sector of the Cordon de Inacaliri Volcanic Complex in the Central Andes, Chile, revealing the geothermal potential of the area for further exploration studies. The study area shows characteristics such as pervasive hydrothermal mineralogical alteration, high CO2 flux values, and soil temperatures up to the boiling point of water at that altitude, suggesting an endogenous source.

Geological controls on geothermal resources for power generation

Egbert Jolie et al.

Summary: Successful discovery and operation of geothermal resources require a thorough understanding of the heterogeneous geological subsurface. Geothermal energy has the potential to be a significant source of sustainable energy in the future but faces challenges related to subsurface complexity and fluid reservoir distribution. Expanding global application of geothermal energy will require detailed knowledge of geological conditions and the development of advanced technologies.
