Yueyun Zhang et al.

Summary: The study found that in Chinese adolescents, girls were more likely to perceive themselves as overweight compared to boys, while underweight perceptions were less common among girls than boys. Perceiving oneself as slightly overweight and very overweight was significantly associated with depressive symptoms for both boys and girls, while very underweight perception was only linked to higher depressive symptoms in boys. The study also showed no significant rural-urban differences in the associations between weight perception and depressive symptoms.
