Sub-ambient daytime radiative cooling by silica-coated porous anodic aluminum oxide

Dasol Lee et al.

Summary: An energy-free daytime radiative cooler based on silica-coated porous anodic aluminum oxide has been proposed, optimized, and experimentally realized. The final design, optimized using effective medium theory, exhibits high reflectance in the solar spectral region and a substantial average emissivity in the atmospheric window, achieving a maximum cooling effect of 6.1 degrees C below ambient temperature during the daytime. This approach is believed to be a promising way to produce inexpensive and efficient radiative coolers.

On-demand design of spectrally sensitive multiband absorbers using an artificial neural network

Sunae So et al.

Summary: This study utilized deep learning to design spectrally sensitive multiband absorbers in the visible range, proposing a five-layered metal-insulator-metal grating structure designed with an ANN and validating the optical properties of the design. The research demonstrates that the trained ANN can learn physical knowledge and suggests a method to reduce the size of the ANN.

Multiple-patterning colloidal lithography-implemented scalable manufacturing of heat-tolerant titanium nitride broadband absorbers in the visible to near-infrared

Dasol Lee et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates a thermally robust titanium nitride broadband absorber with over 95% absorption efficiency in the visible and near-infrared region. A relatively large-scale absorber device is fabricated using multiple-patterning colloidal lithography, maintaining its optical properties even at temperatures above 600 degrees Celsius. Such a large-scale, heat-tolerant, and broadband near-perfect absorber will have further useful applications in various fields.
