Mitochondrial Threonyl-tRNA Synthetase TARS2 Is Required for Threonine-Sensitive mTORC1 Activation

Sung-Hoon Kim et al.

Summary: This study reveals a new pathway for activating mTORC1 in response to variations in threonine levels through mitochondrial synthetase TARS2. The interaction between TARS2 and Rags increases GTP loading of RagA, influencing the activity of mTORC1.

Invited Review: Maintain or Improve Piglet Gut Health around Weanling: The Fundamental Effects of Dietary Amino Acids

Shengfa F. Liao

Summary: Gut health is crucial for swine production, with gut morphology and luminal microbiota playing key roles. Amino acids are essential for maintaining gut tissue integrity and supporting the growth of microbiota. Different amino acids have varying effects on gut health, and further research is needed to understand how to optimize these effects for practical application. The interaction between non-nutrient feed additives and amino acids requires more investigation, especially in light of the global movement to reduce antibiotic usage in swine production.

Design, optimization, and nanotechnology of antimicrobial peptides: From exploration to applications

Peng Tan et al.

Summary: The abuse of antibiotics causing antibiotic resistance is a serious threat to human health, and antimicrobial peptides have become potential antibiotic alternatives due to their unique mechanisms. Despite the problems with natural AMPs, advancements in molecular design, optimization strategies, and nanotechnology have shown potential to improve their properties. Progress in the design and optimization strategies of AMPs lay a theoretical foundation for the development of peptide-based antimicrobial nanomaterials, providing more effective antibiotic alternatives.

Dietary fiber-derived short-chain fatty acids: A potential therapeutic target to alleviate obesity-related nonalcoholic fatty liver disease

Shumin Zhang et al.

Summary: This review summarizes the crosstalk between short chain fatty acids (SCFAs) and host metabolism in relation to NAFLD pathophysiology, focusing on recent advances. It highlights the roles of SCFAs in gut generation and absorption, maintenance of gut barrier, alleviation of hepatic inflammatory responses, and regulation of hepatic energy balance, with involvement of G-protein-coupled receptors (GPRs) in these metabolic processes. The review aims to provide new insights into the potential therapeutic targeting of SCFAs in the management of liver diseases.

l-Threonine upregulates the expression of β-defensins by activating the NF-κB signaling pathway and suppressing SIRT1 expression in porcine intestinal epithelial cells

Chenxi Wang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that l-threonine can effectively increase the expression of beta-defensins and reduce inflammatory cytokines in porcine intestinal epithelial cells. Furthermore, l-threonine helps alleviate LPS-induced intestinal mucosal barrier damage, suggesting its potential as a promising approach to enhance disease resistance and intestinal health in animals.
