Affordability of current, and healthy, more equitable, sustainable diets by area of socioeconomic disadvantage and remoteness in Queensland: insights into food choice

Amanda Lee et al.

Summary: The study found that recommended diets would cost 20% less than current diets in Queensland as a whole, but would be more expensive in low-income or very remote areas. Policy actions are recommended, such as increasing the tax differential between healthy and unhealthy foods in Australia from the current 10% to 20% and supplementing incomes of vulnerable households, especially in remote areas, to improve diet equity and sustainability, and overall health and well-being.

Achieving Food System Transformation: Insights From A Retrospective Review of Nutrition Policy (In)Action in High-Income Countries

Amanda J. Lee et al.

Summary: This study found that most OECD member countries' nutrition policies mainly focus on behavior change communication, with little use of economic tools and lack of attention to reducing consumption of unhealthy foods or drinks. The NOURISHING framework may need expansion to more comprehensively encompass the health and sustainability dimensions of food systems.
