Hydrogen Bonding Enhances the Electrochemical Hydrogenation of Benzaldehyde in the Aqueous Phase

Udishnu Sanyal et al.

Summary: The hydrogenation of benzaldehyde to benzyl alcohol is significantly promoted by the presence of polar co-adsorbates like substituted phenols, facilitated by external potential. These co-adsorbates enhance the hydrogenation rate by polarizing the carbonyl group and increasing the likelihood of forming a transition state for H addition, leading to a faster hydrogenation route involving phenol as a conduit for proton addition.

Deep eutectic solvents as H2-sources for Ru(II)-catalyzed transfer hydrogenation of carbonyl compounds under mild conditions

Marzia Cavallo et al.

Summary: This study describes the use of affordable ruthenium(II) complexes as pre-catalysts in the transfer hydrogenation of carbonyl compounds in deep eutectic media for the first time. The eutectic mixture TBABr/HCOOH acts as both reaction medium and hydrogen source, requiring the addition of a base for the process. The optimized catalytic system of [RuCl(p-cymene)-mu-Cl](2) and dppf has shown good activity for the reduction of aldehydes and ketones to alcohols under mild conditions, with moderate to excellent tolerance towards different functional groups.

Choline chloride-based ternary deep band gap systems

Alberto Mannu et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the structural features of five ternary eutectic systems containing choline chloride through UV-VIS spectroscopy, investigating the relationship between composition and energy. The results showed that composition and operational parameters influence structural disorder, and the DES-aging has a significant impact on the system structure.
