A dual-core fiber for tunable polarization splitters in the terahertz regime

Summary: A new scheme of dual-core THz fiber for tunable polarization splitter is proposed, with elliptical polymer cores modified with elliptical air holes to achieve high modal birefringence and low transmission loss. Different coupling lengths for x and y polarizations allow for easy separation of orthogonal polarizations. Numerical analysis demonstrates a 0.865 cm splitting length at 1 THz, with operation frequency tunable by applied pressure, extending the bandwidth from 0.9 to 1 THz. This proposed THz fiber polarization splitter has potential applications in on-chip integrated THz polarization devices and in-fiber integrated optical devices.
