Development and characterization of a new multi-strength level binder system using soda residue-carbide slag as composite activator

Weichao Guo et al.

Summary: A new multi-strength level binder system was developed using alkaline solid wastes soda residue and calcium carbide slag to synergistically activate ground granulated blast-furnace slag and fly ash. Experimental studies and examinations were conducted to systematically evaluate the properties and evolution mechanism of the proposed binder. The results showed that the new binder system significantly improved early and late strengths by utilizing CS to increase the early hydration rate and generate more gel products, while using FA to adjust the strength level and reduce shrinkage.

Characteristics of ammonia-soda residue and its reuse in magnesium oxychloride cement pastes

Congbo Li et al.

Summary: ASR, by-products from ammonia-soda factories, leads to severe water pollution and soil contamination due to its strong alkaline features. The current recycling efficiency of these residues is low, only 3-4% in China, which needs urgent improvement. This study explores the feasibility of reusing ASR in magnesium oxychloride cement (MOC) products, finding that ASR with small particle size and high specific surface area can decrease flowability and strength but accelerate the setting process of MOC pastes. The technical route of reutilizing ASR in MOC was deemed rational and feasible, with little adverse effect of Mg in ASR on MOC pastes.

Ammonia-soda residue and metallurgical slags from iron and steel industries as cementitious materials for clinker-free concretes

Dong Xu et al.

Summary: This study successfully prepared clinker-free concrete by combining ASR with metallurgical slags from the iron and steel industries. The concrete, which can replace traditional concretes and reduce CO2 emissions, exhibited good engineering performance. Experimental results validated the feasibility and advantages of the new concrete.

Properties and Hydration Mechanism of Soda Residue-Activated Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag Cementitious Materials

Yonghui Lin et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of different mass ratios of SR-activated GGBFS cementitious materials on their physical properties, mechanical strength, and chloride binding capacity. Results showed that adding 16% SR can achieve maximum compressive strength, while increasing SR addition led to decreased density and increased porosity of the pastes.
