Artificial methods for the remineralization of hydroxyapatite in enamel

F. Clift

Summary: This review discusses relevant techniques for the mineralization of hydroxyapatite in enamel, including fluoride, amelogenin and its derivatives, peptide and amino acid treatments, surfactant and biogel templates, and direct crystal formation. These methods have shown varying degrees of success in regenerating HAP structures with enamel-like properties and may have potential applications in clinical treatment.

Characterisation of a Bioactive SiO2-CaO-CaF2-Na2O Glass Used in Composites

Hina Khalid et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that the bioactive glass is capable of increasing pH and forming fluorapatite in phosphate-containing media. The release of ions and the phosphate content in the media influenced the formation of fluorapatite.

Comparative evaluation of mechanical and physical properties of a new bulk-fill alkasite with conventional restorative materials

Fariha Naz et al.

Summary: This study compared the physical and mechanical performance of a newly commercialized dental restorative material with glass ionomer cement and nano-hybrid composite. The newly developed restorative material showed better results in terms of shear bond strength and surface roughness, outperforming GIC and nano-hybrid composite.

Anti-demineralizing protective effects on enamel identified in experimental and commercial restorative materials with functional fillers

Matej Par et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the protective effect of dental restorative materials with functional fillers on enamel that is not adjacent to the restoration. The results showed that materials containing bioactive glass could delay enamel softening and provide long-lasting protection. Additionally, the presence of bioactive glass and higher alkalizing effect contributed to better enamel protection.

Effect of deproteinization treatments on the structure and mechanical properties of dental enamel

Jasmin Koldehoff et al.

Summary: The removal of proteins through chemical means has little effect on the elastic modulus and hardness of dental enamel, with the main influence on mechanical properties coming from the intertwining structure of enamel crystallites.
