Physical, Radiation Shielding and Crystallization Properties of Na2O-Bi2O3- MoO3-B2O3- SiO2-Fe2O3 Glasses

A. F. Abd El-Rehim et al.

Summary: The melt-quenching method was used to fabricate a complex Mo-doped glass system, and the status of the samples was checked using XRD diffractometer. The results showed that the increase of Mo content led to changes in several properties, such as the reduction of inter-ionic distance, the increase of two-photon absorption coefficient, and the slight increase of ionicity.

Effect of BO4 and FeO4 Structural Units on Conduction Mechanism of Iron Borosilicate Glasses

G. El-Damrawi et al.

Summary: Several oxide glasses in the system of xFe(2)O(3).25SiO(2).(43-x)B2O3.30Na(2)O.2Al(2)O(3) were synthesized and studied for the effect of changing BO(4) and FeO(4) tetrahedral building units on conductivity behavior. Fourier transforms infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) was used to investigate the structural role of iron ions in borosilicate glasses. The concentration of FeO(4) was identified as the main reason for conductivity improvements, leading to an increase in conductivity and decrease in activation energy with increasing FeO(4) concentration.

Effect of Sb2O3 addition on radiation attenuation properties of tellurite glasses containing V2O5 and Nb2O5

M. S. Al-Buriahi et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of Sb2O3 on the attenuation properties of tellurite glasses, showing an increase in mass attenuation coefficient with Sb2O3 addition. The maximum and minimum effective atomic numbers were obtained at specific photon energies, and the exposure rate followed a specific trend. Different effects of Sb2O3 addition on shielding properties for thermal and fast neutrons were observed, and detailed discussions on the attenuation features for charged particles were provided. It was concluded that the studied glass specimens could be utilized as non-toxic shields against gamma, neutron, and charged particle radiation in various nuclear applications.

Effect of CdO addition on photon, electron, and neutron attenuation properties of boro-tellurite glasses

M. S. AlBuriahi et al.

Summary: This research article investigates the impact of CdO addition on the radiation shielding characteristics of borotellurite glasses, concluding that regardless of the concentration of CdO content, these glasses exhibit promising shielding performance against gamma, beta, and neutron radiations. The simulation results were theoretically confirmed and the glasses were compared with common shielding materials in terms of MFP.

Synthesis, FTIR, and neutron/charged particle transmission properties of Pb3O4-SiO2-ZnO-WO3 glass system

Sultan Alomairy et al.

Summary: A quaternary glass system was prepared via melt quenching method, and its amorphous state was evaluated experimentally. The findings of neutron transmission studies showed that a 6mm thickness reduced the intensity of the fast neutron beam by half, and the maximum range of charged particles was observed in the high energy region. The prepared glass system exhibits promising features for dosimetry and radiation protection applications at neutron energies below 10 MeV.

Novel borosilicate glass system: Na2B4O7-SiO2-MnO2: Synthesis, average electronics polarizability, optical basicity, and gamma-ray shielding features

E. A. Abdel Wahab et al.

Summary: A novel glass system with a chemical composition described by the formula 50SiO(2)-(48+x) Na2B4O7-x MnO2 was fabricated using a melt-quenching method, and its state was checked using an XRD diffractometer. The study found that obtaining the physical and optical values of the manganese borosilicate glass system could aid in the development of solid-state devices and optical memory equipment. The polarizability and basicity of the glass samples were found to have the same trend as the refractive index, and the linear attenuation coefficient showed significant variations across the samples.

Summary: The melt-quenching method was used to fabricate the Na2B4O7 - CdO glass system, and XRD diffractometer procedure was used to analyze the samples. The structural properties of the samples changed with increasing Cd content, with Cd-Cd inter-ionic distance decreasing. As CdO content increased, the glass character became more covalent, and the values of T-g, T-c, and T-P also increased.
