Streptomyces venezuelae NRRL B-65442: genome sequence of a model strain used to study morphological differentiation in filamentous actinobacteria

Juan Pablo Gomez-Escribano et al.

Summary: Streptomyces venezuelae has been widely used as a model strain for studying molecular mechanisms controlling morphological development in streptomycetes. Its rapid growth and ability to sporulate in a near-synchronized manner in liquid culture make it suitable for modern molecular techniques. A high-quality genome sequence of the strain was described, revealing differences in spore pigmentation and the successful use of CRISPR-Cas9 to cure the plasmid without noticeable phenotypic consequences.
