Estimate of turbulent energy dissipation rate using free-fall and CTD-attached fast-response thermistors in weak ocean turbulence

Ichiro Yasuda et al.

Summary: Measurement of turbulence is crucial for understanding the vertical and diapycnal transport of heat, water, and substances affecting climate, nutrient supply, and marine ecosystems. This study demonstrates that the use of FP07 can effectively measure turbulent energy dissipation rate, especially in deep ocean observations where turbulence is generally weak. The results extend the range of turbulence measurements using the FP07 and highlight its applicability in turbulent observations.

Global trends of ocean CO2 sink and ocean acidification: an observation-based reconstruction of surface ocean inorganic carbon variables

Yosuke Iida et al.

Summary: Research suggests that oceanic CO2 uptake decreased during the 1990s and has been increasing since 2000. The globally averaged rate of pH change is estimated to be -0.0181 per decade(-1), with relatively slower rates of decline in the Southern Ocean and the western equatorial Pacific.

Cross-basin differences in the nutrient assimilation characteristics of induced phytoplankton blooms in the subtropical Pacific waters

Fuminori Hashihama et al.

Summary: The nutrient assimilation characteristics of subtropical phytoplankton were studied through deep-water addition incubation experiments, revealing variations in the drawdown ratios of dissolved inorganic nitrogen to phosphate at different stations. These ratios were influenced by phosphorus concentrations and phytoplankton species, indicating the complex nature of nutrient dynamics in subtropical oceans.
