The effect of oat β-glucan on postprandial blood glucose and insulin responses: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Andreea Zurbau et al.

Summary: Oat beta-glucan has been shown to reduce postprandial glucose and insulin responses, with the magnitude of glucose reduction depending on dose, molecular weight, and comparator. Different comparator meals result in a significantly larger reduction in glucose and insulin responses compared to similar control meals.

Summary: The study showed that the intake of 5g/day of oat beta-glucan for 12 weeks can improve glycemic control, reduce HbA1c, decrease insulin, C-peptide, and HOMA levels, promote satiety, and induce changes in gut microbiota profiles among patients with type-2 diabetes.
