The peppermint breath test: a benchmarking protocol for breath sampling and analysis using GC-MS

M. Wilkinson et al.

Summary: Exhaled breath contains potentially diagnostic VOCs, and standardizing breath sample analysis can increase confidence in results. This study analyzed peppermint-derived compounds in breath samples to establish benchmark values for TD-GC-MS systems.

Determination of peppermint compounds in breath by needle trap micro-extraction coupled with gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry

Francesca G. Bellagambi et al.

Summary: Breath analysis is an alternative approach for disease diagnosis and therapy monitoring, but the lack of standardized procedures hinders its clinical use. The Peppermint Consortium was established to define reference values for compounds in peppermint oil capsules. A new technique using needle trap micro-extraction coupled with gas chromatography and mass spectrometry was used for rapid and accurate analysis of breath samples.
