Sustainable stormwater management under the impact of climate change and urban densification

Lea Rosenberger et al.

Summary: The study investigated the combined quantitative hydrological impact of densification and sustainable stormwater management measures in a residential neighborhood in Munich, Germany. The results show that sustainable stormwater management measures are crucial to cope with an increasing number of heavy precipitation events due to climate change, with the best-case scenario significantly outperforming the others in terms of water infiltration, surface runoff, and storage. The positive impact of sustainable water-sensitive design in handling climate change projection rainfall intensities for 2040-2069 was evident in the outcomes.
