In this study, a new multifunctional organic molybdenum material was developed to enhance the tribological performance of biodegradable oils, with friction coefficient and wear scar diameter significantly reduced. The tribofilm is mainly composed of various metal oxides and sulfides, exhibiting a layered structure with diverse sulfur forms.
In this study, we developed a new multifunctional mercaptotriazine-containing organic molybdenum with excellent properties to enhance the tribological performance of biodegradable based oils. The coefficient of friction and wear scar diameter are greatly reduced up to -40% and -44%, respectively. Surface analyses reveal that the tribofilm is mainly composed of FeS, FeSO4, Fe2O3, MoO3, MoS2 and FeMoO4. Furthermore, the tribofilm also exhibits a layered structure with different chemical compositions, in which the sulfur in the body tribofilm mainly exists in the form of S2-, SO32- and SO42-, while the sulfur in the subsurface of the tribofilm is mainly composed of S2- and SO4 2-. Our findings might pave the way for exploiting the multifunctional and environmentally-friendly lubricating materials.
