Recurrent Swelling and Microfilaremia Caused by Dirofilaria repens Infection after Travel to India

Summary: In a case study of dirofilariasis involving a traveler returning from India to Germany, it was found that the infection was caused by Dirofilaria repens nematodes of an Asian genotype, with no clear periodicity in microfilaremia. Treatment with doxycycline was successful due to the presence of Wolbachia endosymbionts.
