Comprehensive analysis of gene expression and DNA methylation for preeclampsia progression

Jianrong Wang et al.

Summary: This study identified valuable biomarkers associated with preeclampsia (PE), such as OCA2, CDK2AP1, and ADAM12, through integrated analysis of gene expression and DNA methylation datasets. Functional analysis revealed cell adhesion molecules and leukocyte transendothelial migration as important pathways in PE. Methylation validation experiments confirmed differentially methylated sites and their effects on gene expression in PE samples compared to normal samples.

Comparison of cystatin C-based and creatinine-based glomerular filtration rate in the prediction of postoperative residual hypertension in aldosterone-producing adenoma patients after adrenalectomy

Summary: Renal function is associated with postoperative residual hypertension in APA patients. A combination of creatinine and cystatin C-based GFR estimation method is more accurate in predicting postoperative hypertension in these patients.

Pre-eclampsia

Lucy C. Chappell et al.

Summary: Pre-eclampsia is a pregnancy disorder characterized by placental malperfusion, leading to hypertension and multi-organ injury, with potential fetal growth restriction and stillbirth. While prophylactic low-dose aspirin can reduce the risk of preterm pre-eclampsia, there are currently no curative treatments once pre-eclampsia is diagnosed except for delivery. Ongoing studies are evaluating various strategies and drugs to prevent and manage pre-eclampsia.

The role of cystatin C, neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio and platelet-lymphocyte ratio in the evaluation of kidney function in women with preeclampsia

Aysun Tekeli Taskomur et al.

Summary: The study compared the diagnostic efficiency of cystatin C with traditional kidney markers in preeclampsia and analyzed their relationship with neutrophil-lymphocyte and platelet-lymphocyte ratios. The results showed that cystatin C level reflects renal functions better than uric acid and creatinine in preeclampsia, and it can be used as a prognostic marker in preeclamptic pregnancies. Neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio levels may be a parameter correlating with severity in severe preeclampsia.

Novel in vivo and ex vivo hybrid in vivo imaging system (IVIS) imaging offers a convenient and precise way to measure the glomerular filtration rate in conscious mice

Seo-Kyoung Hwang et al.

Summary: A new in- and ex vivo hybrid method for measuring GFR using the in vivo imaging system (IVIS) was developed as an alternative to the traditional filtration marker method with fluorescence molecular tomography (FMT). The results showed that the IVIS imaging measurement of inulin clearance in untreated, vehicle-treated and cyclosporine A-treated mice yielded comparable GFR values to those obtained with FMT imaging, demonstrating the feasibility and reliability of this alternative technique for assessing renal function in pharmacological and toxicological studies.
