Multiscaling analysis of Soil Water Content during irrigation events. Comparison between surface and subsurface drip irrigation

Leonor Rodriguez-Sinobas et al.

Summary: This study utilized multifractal analysis and generalized structure function to characterize the scaling properties of soil water content evolution under different irrigation methods. It was found that SWC evolution in subsurface irrigation plots was more homogeneous, while the surface irrigation plots exhibited higher spatial and temporal variability, deviating from a pure Brownian motion pattern. The research provides insights into the necessary adjustments for irrigation water depth and frequency to prevent water loss in both surface and subsurface irrigation systems.

Establishment and verification of the prediction model of soil wetting pattern size in vertical moistube irrigation

Yanwei Fan et al.

Summary: The study established an empirical model based on simulations and experiments to predict the soil wetting pattern of vertical moistube irrigation using a power function. The model showed good prediction performance, providing a scientific basis for the design, operation, and management of moistube irrigation systems.

Prediction of infiltration behaviors and evaluation of irrigation efficiency in clay loam soil under Moistube® irrigation

Wei Qi et al.

Summary: Moistube irrigation (MTI) is a newly developed technique that delivers water to the root zone precisely and slowly using semipermeable membranes. This study investigated the effects of different parameters on infiltration behaviors and irrigation efficiency in clay loam soil. The results showed that operating pressure head significantly influenced infiltration behaviors, with higher pressure heads leading to increased discharge and wetting area in soil. Placement depth of Moistube had an impact on the time wetting fronts reached boundaries, but not on discharge or advancing velocity. High operating pressure could reduce water-saving capacity, while low pressure might decrease crop yield. Burying Moistube at half the crop root zone depth is recommended for high irrigation efficiency in clay loam soil.
