Production and turnover of mycorrhizal soil mycelium relate to variation in drought conditions in Mediterranean Pinus pinaster, Pinus sylvestris and Quercus ilex forests

Andreas Hagenbo et al.

Summary: The production and turnover of mycorrhizal mycelium in Mediterranean forests were studied, showing variations in biomass related to season, tree species, and precipitation levels. Pine-dominated forests had higher biomass but were more variable seasonally, while oak forests had lower and stable biomass levels. Production and turnover rates were positively correlated with precipitation levels, suggesting a relationship between mycelial dynamics and drought conditions.
