Management of microbial contaminants in theIn VitroGene Bank: a case study of taro [Colocasia esculenta(L.) Schott]

Vartika Srivastava et al.

Summary: The study showed that antibiotic supplemented media was not effective in eliminating bacterial contamination, but hardening infected plants in the field and re-establishing them under in vitro conditions resulted in an average of 6.03% bacteria-free cultures in 14 accessions, suggesting that endophytic bacteria associated with the host plants could be efficiently mitigated through shifting tissue culture-derived corms to ex vitro conditions periodically and reintroducing bacteria-free shoot tip explants in vitro.
