Tumor microenvironment triple-responsive nanoparticles enable enhanced tumor penetration and synergetic chemo-photodynamic therapy

Man Shu et al.

Summary: A novel combined chemo/photodynamic therapy has been developed using pH/ROS/MMP-2 triple-responsive drug nanocarriers for efficient treatment of solid tumors. The nanoparticles can effectively accumulate in tumors, release drugs in response to intracellular pH and ROS levels, and amplify ROS generation with external laser irradiation to achieve extraordinary therapeutic efficacy. The treatment showed substantial tumor shrinkage and eradication with low toxicity in major organs, indicating great potential for tumor therapy.
