Inhibition of ROS/NLRP3/Caspase-1 mediated pyroptosis alleviates excess molybdenum-induced apoptosis in duck renal tubular epithelial cells

Shaoxing Pi et al.

Summary: This study found that excess molybdenum can induce pyroptosis in duck renal tubular epithelial cells through the ROS/NLRP3/Caspase-1 pathway, and inhibiting Caspase-1-dependent pyroptosis may weaken molybdenum-induced apoptosis. This provides a theoretical basis for nephrotoxic research on waterfowl exposed to excess molybdenum, and highlights a new mechanism of interaction between pyroptosis and apoptosis.

The mycobiome in murine intestine is more perturbed by food arsenic exposure than in excreted feces

Lianxian Guo et al.

Summary: Exposure to arsenic can significantly disturb the fungal composition in the murine gut, with greater variations along the digestive tract than in feces. This indicates that feces may not accurately represent the gut mycobiota in arsenic exposure studies.

Dependence of arsenic resistance and reduction capacity of Aeromonas hydrophila on carbon substrate

Di Min et al.

Summary: There is a high correlation between the arsenic resistance and reduction ability of Aeromonas hydrophila and the carbon substrate, with the arsenic resistance system widely present within the genus and associated with the ars operon. Sensitivity to As(III) and As(V) in A. hydrophila heavily depends on the type of carbon substrate. Upregulated expression of arsA, arsB, arsD and/or downregulated expression of glpF may be responsible for increased microbial tolerance to As(III), while the As(V) reduction rate is also affected by the type of carbon substrate.

Arsenic or/and antimony induced mitophagy and apoptosis associated with metabolic abnormalities and oxidative stress in the liver of mice

Gaolong Zhong et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that co-exposure to arsenic and antimony can result in oxidative damage and mitochondrial injury in the liver, leading to abnormal liver energy metabolism and lipid metabolism disorder. Mitophagy and apoptosis play important roles in the mechanisms of arsenic/antimony cytotoxicity to mouse livers.
