Is Physiological Equivalent Temperature (PET) a superior screening tool for heat stress risk than Wet-Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) index? Eight years of data from the Gothenburg half marathon

Sofia Thorsson et al.

Summary: The physiological equivalent temperature (PET) showed the strongest correlation with ambulance-required assistances and collapses during a city half marathon compared with the Universal Thermal Climate Index (UTCI) and the Wet-Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT). The PET is a better predictor of collapses during a half marathon and should be further investigated as a screening tool alongside the WBGT.

Lower limb muscle injury location shift from posterior lower leg to hamstring muscles with increasing discipline-related running velocity in international athletics championships

Pascal Edouard et al.

Summary: The study analyzed the rates of lower limb muscle injuries in different athletics disciplines requiring various running velocities during international athletics championships. The findings showed that the proportion, incidence rates, and injury burden of lower limb muscle injuries varied between disciplines for male and female athletes. The running velocity could play a role in the occurrence and location of muscle injuries.
