Multifunctional superhydrophobic coatings fabricated from basalt scales on a fluorocarbon coating base

Hongpeng Zheng et al.

Summary: This study focuses on developing easy-to-apply superhydrophobic coatings with multifunctional capabilities to extend the integrity and durability of the coatings in harsh marine environments. By using selective chemical etching and fluorination methods, a superhydrophobic surface with the required structure and low surface energy was fabricated on basalt scales for large surface area applications.

Antibacterial metals and alloys for potential biomedical implants

Erlin Zhang et al.

Summary: Metals and alloys, such as stainless steel, titanium, cobalt alloys, have been widely used as implant materials, but implant-related infection or inflammation remains a major cause of implantation failure. Antimicrobial metals and alloys have recently attracted attention for their stable antimicrobial ability, good mechanical properties, and biocompatibility, showing promise for clinical applications.
