PERSONALITY, SCHIZOPHRENIA, AND VIOLENCE: A LONGITUDINAL STUDY: THE SECOND WAVE OF THE VIORMED PROJECT

Gioia Bottesi et al.

Summary: The study revealed that patients with antisocial, sadistic, borderline, and paranoid personality traits are more likely to exhibit aggressive behavior. Patients with a primary diagnosis of personality disorders displayed more aggressive behaviors during the follow-up compared to those with a primary diagnosis of schizophrenia. Identifying primary diagnosis of personality disorders as the most significant predictor of aggressive behaviors over time could help reduce violent recidivism.

Summary: This study found that 56.3% of homicide perpetrators in England and Wales had personality disorders, with 62% of them identified as having severe personality disorders. Severe personality disorders were significantly associated with homicides of strangers and previous violent behavior.
